2010 EASTER BALL
Published: 30 April 2010
Young People had a Ball at a recent Youth Opportunity Fund Event held at the National Glass Centre. Special invitations were sent out to youth projects that had benefited from Government funding of the Youth Opportunity Fund/Youth Capital Fund (YOF/YCF) organised by the Youth Matters Team, a panel of young people who make decisions on where best to allocate grants from the Youth Development Group. Grants were made availiable from £1,000 up to £100,000 to groups of young people aged from 13 to 19 or up to 25 years of age if they have disabilities.
The purpose of the ball is to recognise young people's achievements, along with their commitment to improve on youth services and facilities in the city. More than 21 projects who received funding this year were presented with a special engraved glass trophy to acknowledge their outstanding work.
Feedback from young people and project support workers after the event has been brilliant. I can reiterate from those comments that the majority had a great time making remarks on the venue, people and atmosphere being fabulous, the presence of the Mayor and Mayoress along with heads of services, councillors, and a young knockout celebrity guest Paul 'The Mackem' Holborn an International Lightweight Champion who gave young people words of encouragement on achieving their goals in life.
