N’gage

Published: 09 April 2010

Are you interested in the Internet?

Do you have ideas about how the Internet can be used to help young people put forward their views and get their voice heard?

Have you already used the Internet to air your views or do you know of others that have?

Do you want to put forward your thoughts on how best to involve young people through the use of the Internet?

Then there is a great opportunity open for you to get involved and N'gaged!!

N'gage is a new project aimed at identifying how to use the internet to help engage young people in local decision making. They are currently looking for 10 young people aged 16 to 24 years of age to join the N'gage research team.

The project is being run by Sunderland and South Tyneside Councils with the support of Blake Stevenson Ltd , a consultancy interested in the impact of the web on the way people live, work and play!

Project N'gage is about exploring how the internet and mobile phones can be used to help young people engage in making decisions about the thing that matter to them:

Issues such as:

Education, Planning and Leisure will be looked into to see how best to get young people involved.

N'gage need to find out:

What technology needs to be used - Bebo , Facebook , Myspace to help engage young people?

What works and what doesn't?

What do your friends think?

What are the risks with using social networking sites?

Who can we learn from?

N'gage needs your help to look at a number of issues. They need to:

Identify what young people use sites such as Bebo , Facebook and Myspace for?

Track down good examples of how the web is being used by organisations to engage young people

Speak with your friends and other young people to gather their views

Identify the problems that could arise from using this technology to engage young people

Help design and (possibly) deliver a training course to help council employees understand the potential of the internet for engaging young people

Make sure that the findings reflect the views of young people

You don't need to have done any research before; as they will provide all the training you need. You just need access to the Internet

What do you gain from working on this project?

Work EXPERIENCE on a 'live' project

An OPPORTUNITY to learn new skills

A CHANCE to meet new people

50 Pounds worth of ITunes or Amazon vouchers or a top up card for your mobile

How do I get involved or find out more?

If this is an opportunity that you would like to explore please send us a short email saying why you would like to get involved. If you have a CV then you can send that too!

Closing date for enquiries is 30th APRIL 2010

N'gage will then fix a time to have a chat with you over the phone. That way they can discuss the opportunity in more detail and you see if the role is something that you would like to do!

You will need to keep in mind that they will need 5 days of your time over the project that will take place from May 2010 to May 2011.
