Jessica Boyce has achieved a place as a Torchbearer in the 2012 Olympics.
Jess (18 years) was nominated in June 2011 by City Equals in recognition of her community involvement as Chairperson at City Equals, who raise awareness of issues that affect young people with a learning disability or difficulty and for her achievements in sport and acting, despite having Asperger Syndrome.
She has been a member of City Equals for seven years and has attended the special Olympics club, where in 2009 she achieved a bronze medal in Badminton. She also swims and plays bowls. She has taken part in three Shakespeare Schools Festivals and has achieved her Duke of Edinburgh Bronze, Silver and is currently pursuing her Gold Award.
In spite of fierce competition for limited places, her great sense of humour shone through, and Jessica is currently doing an internship at Sunderland Royal Hospital.
